Blu Triptych: three poems related to Blu, the Guardian Dragon of Cyrene.

The first is a drinking song composed in honor of Blu's hundredth birthday.
The second is an ode to Ainghaeal, his mother, who died attacking Cyrene.
The third is a speculative poem about Blu's father.

Rhapsody for Blu
a toast to his centenary

Often found by our Bell Tower
Is a dragon filled with power,
But don't be afraid he's our own
Blu, the Dragon of Cyrene.

Blu's the best; I'm not just braggin'!
Give a toast and raise a flagon
To our happy birthday dragon,
Blu, the Dragon of Cyrene.

When he hatched a hundred years ago
There might have been some fears, although
Not even sagest seers could know
How much he'd come to mean.

Now he's been with us a century
(Except for that adventure he
Had when Cyrene was not sure we
Again would hear his keen.)

Blu's the best; I'm not just braggin'!
Give a toast and raise a flagon
To our happy birthday dragon,
Blu, the Dragon of Cyrene.

When our enemies come callin'
From the skies they'll soon be fallin',
For our Guardian will maul 'em,
Leavin nothing but their spleen.

Yes, they'll think twice about raiding
When their piked heads are parading,
And instead they'll go invading
Bastion, Jewel, or somewhere Green

Blu's the best; I'm not just braggin'!
Give a toast and raise a flagon
To our happy birthday dragon,
Blu, the Dragon of Cyrene

So let's meet at Centre Crossing,
Ring the bells, and let our voice ring
Out as one, while we are tossing
Back the biggest brew we've seen

To the Guardian of our city:
Faithful, friendly, bold, and pretty,
Here's a hundredth birthday ditty
To the Dragon of Cyrene.

Blu's the best; I'm not just braggin'!
Give a toast and raise a flagon
To our happy birthday dragon,
Blu, the Dragon of Cyrene.

First Family

Ainghaeal, we have forgiven you.
A century has passed since Cyrene,
Leaderless from your attack, began anew.

At the time we thought you enemy.
Now you are an example to Cyrene
Of the love of a mother for her family.

Blu hatched. The egg you sought to save was saved.
We know him as the Guardian of Cyrene.
And would ourselves behave as you behaved

Should he be threatened. We raised him. We understand.
Family is important to Cyrene.
We sorrow that you died by Cyrene's hand.

Today your name is held in honor here.
Ainghaeal's Nest is the Arena of Cyrene,
And we rest safe and sure: Your son is near.

What Great Drake?

Blu, who was your sire? What great drake
Made Ainghaeal his bride in those days
Before earth-shaking and earth-shaking deeds
Once again revealed the Vashnar's Gem?

Does he still live, some fearsome denizen
In a mountain fastness, waiting for another
landslide to be revealed? Or did he perish
Ere you came to be? Had he fame--

If not among men, among dragons?
Do you ever wonder as you guard
Your chosen home what life you might
Have lived, had not fate bound you

To Cyrene and to its people? You had
No chance to meet your mother, but your
Other maker, unknown father, what of him?
Do you dream? Do you wonder?

Blu, who was your sire? What great drake?
