Remember, once upon a time

when we, with starry eyes,

had not yet reached our golden prime

and so, were not despised?

It feels like such a faraway dream;

the years sure take their toll...

A Divine plot, a mortal scheme,

another petty goal.

Old Handel, with his candled choir

taught us of Good and Light;

the harsher lessons: battle's fire

burning through the night.

So we grew older side by side

as friends and confidants;

our skills grew great just like our pride,

our visions, and our wants.

But we were not the same at heart,

our journeys would diverge;

For other lands I would depart

and you, your power surged.

In Cyrene, I found peace and calm,

in Ashtan I found war;

While you found clarity in psalms,

mine came from battle's roar.

Despite our cities' enmities

we always shared a bond;

We took the time for pleasantries,

to earnestly respond.

By Bal'met's hand, great Gods were felled,

the world turned on its head;

strong motives openly revealed,

the whole world felt His tread.

Our cruelest words came spilling forth,

we said things worth regret;

long-simmering discontent unearthed

and uncollected debts.

For me, it seems our history

will not just disappear;

in silence, I've found misery

and sometimes, even tears.

Time's truly changed so much, my dear,

but some things never do;

Come with me, we'll live out our years:

old has-beens, through and through.
