Triremes were long, thin war galleys with three rows of oars on each side. As they were used primarily for ramming, their narrow shape was designed to combine a maximum of manoeuvrability and speed with a large number of rowers. Triremes fell into disuse sometime before the founding of the Seleucarian Empire, though in the times of Amphites they provided the bulk of the Ashtani armada.
