New Year's Day, Cyrene


It's New Year's Day and in Cyrene,<br>
A concert at the Dancing Boar!<br>
Poets recite, musicians play,<br>
And dancers whirl across the floor,<br>
A storyteller spins a tale,<br>
And, of course, there are songs galore.<br>

Sometimes a jester does a skit<br>
That has us rolling in the aisles,<br>
Or else a ribald bawdy ballad<br>
Fills us all with smirking smiles<br>
As we are told of some poor soul,<br>
Fell victim to a siren's wiles.<br>

An instrumental on the harp<br>
Can move us with its haunting chords<br>
That bring to mind a horse's race,<br>
A river's flow, or clashing swords.<br>
Or we might learn the history<br>
Of satyrs, or of chaos lords,<br>

Or of Seleucar, so long lost,<br>
Or Thera, still so fresh a scar,<br>
Or see Selene's birth in dance.<br>
So come, no matter where you are,<br>
Today's the first of Sarapin,<br>
The Dancing Boar is not too far!<br>

It's New Year's Day and in Cyrene,<br>
A concert, and completely free!<br>
The Maestro's calling people now--<br>
You can hunt later, come and see<br>
The talent Ty Beirdd has to show<br>
And relax with an ale or three.<br>

The brewery's just down the road,<br>
Dianthe sells her food right here,<br>
And wine, so there is no excuse<br>
For those of you who don't like beer.<br>
Fill up your stomach, grab a seat,<br>
This only happens once a year.<br>

The crowd is milling, people wait,<br>
The air has an expectant thrum.<br>
Those here greet those arriving, or<br>
Are waiting for their friends to come.<br>
So many folk already, yet<br>
There's still room for another one.<br>

So portal, fly, warp, Universe<br>
Where'er in Sapience you are,<br>
Pilgrimage or be delivered,<br>
Prism, or hire Thomas's car<br>
Today's the first of Sarapin,<br>
The Dancing Boar is not too far!<br>
Come and catch a rising star!<br>
