The '''cartographer's desk''' is one of the few pieces of equipment which may be purchased for [[ships]]. The desk is designed to hold a number of [[maps | nautical maps]] which are used by the captain and crew of the vessel to estimate distance and direction to the [[seamark]] for which they are scribed. The desk is built from a dark cherry and a layer of cork covers the top surface, while drawers are fashioned within the desk to hold charting equipment. Also, there is a compartment for storing the other maps that are not in use.

The standard Cartographer's desk costs 25,000 [[gold sovereigns]], but one may double their ship's capacity for maps by purchasing a large desk for an additional 50,000 sovereigns.
