Paper lanterns are a consumeable city-themed artefact which were first awarded in giftbags in honour of Nissa's World's Fair showcase in 804 AF. Lighting a lantern caused it to float into the air, conveying one of three random city-wide bonuses to the owner's city:
- a 5 credit donation to the city coffers
- a city-wide 2% critical hit bonus for 15 minutes (extendable)
- a city-wide 15% xp bonus for 15 minutes (extendable)
The more lanterns lit at one time the more the bonuses increase. For instance, if Estach and Jhui both light one xp-bonus lantern each for Ashtan, then all Ashtani receive a 2% xp bonus for the next half day (30 minutes).
The city-themed lanterns can rarely be awarded through promotional giftbags, stockings, and the Wheel of Fortune.
