A hookah is a device used for smoking which operates through indirect heat and water filtration. A traditional hookah is composed of a base filled partially with water, a bowl in which the substance being smoked is placed, a pipe which plunges into the water of the base, and a hose which connects to the smoke-filled portion of the base. The source of heat is generally placed on top of the bowl.
