The waterway known only as Aalen stream is born from white foaming snowmelt from the cliffs of the Vashnars. The stream carves a dell east to west between the jagged boulders and dense redwoods of the eastern Aalen, its sandy banks populated with butterflies winging their way about grasses, ferns, and skunk cabbage of the nearby forest. The area is a watershed for a woodland lake upon whose surface float strange black and white lilies.
