This is the script of the play The Mythos: Abridged, by a four act play. At some points text is surrounded by brackets; this is to give instruction to the people presenting the play, and is not read aloud when actually performing.

PROLOGUE

Enter Narrator.

NARRATOR Hello. As many of you may know, the Mythos is a long, detailed document of history. Perhaps a bit too long and detailed, as quite a few never read it. Therefore, for your viewing pleasure--or reading pleasure should someone be reading the script rather than watching the play--we have decided to create an abridged and hopefully more entertaining form of the Mythos, even though it might end up being longer. So, please enjoy The Mythos: Abridged.

Exit Narrator.

ACT I

SCENE 1

Enter Ayar.

AYAR

Hi everyone!

(waves cheerfully to audience)

I am Ayar, the creator of everything! Except I haven't created anything yet.

Hrm. I'll get on that.

Ayar holds out his hands dramatically. Enter various gods.

AYAR

I have just created the Elder Gods along with many planes of reality! Here is Aegis, Thoth, Prospero, Vastar, Aeon, Gaia, Shaitan... and... uh... who was next... Well, I created a lot of them! I also created the Aldar, who are basically sub-gods, kind of like what are now Celani. Now go and do whatever it is you deities do in your spare time.

Exit everyone except Ayar. Ayar stands around for a while, glancing around and obviously appearing to grow bored.

AYAR

I'm bored! And who am I talking to? It's boring to know everything! Well, everything except for who I'm talking to. THerefore, to cure my boredom, I will split myself into myself and Proteus, a weaker and not-quite-as-omnipotent version of myself.

Ayar gestures to his right and Proteus enters, standing to the right of Ayar.

AYAR

(to Proteus)

You're looking good!

PROTEUS

Thank you.

AYAR

Oh, and by the way, as far as you know, I don't exist and never created you, and no one else knows otherwise. Everyone thinks you're their leader.

PROTEUS

Huh?

AYAR

It's part of my scheme to be able to live without omnipotence through you, so I'm making sure no one knows that and everyone thinks you're not me even though you are.

PROTEUS

Huh?

AYAR

Look, no one else knows I exist.

PROTEUS

Then how did people know all this to write it down?

AYAR

I think we're getting to that later.

PROTEUS

Well I hope you are, otherwise it'll be one large plot hole.

AYAR

Well, okay, good luck. Remember, you don't know me.

PROTEUS

Who are you again?

AYAR

Exactly!

Exit Ayar.

PROTEUS

Well, wow. I guess we should get on the development of planes. Of course, then all we Elder Gods will get lazy and the Aldar will do all the real work. Oh, and I should get married.

Lorielan enters.

PROTEUS

Will you marry me, Lorielan?

LORIELAN

This is so sudden!

PROTEUS

So then she became my queen and lover.

LORIELAN

I haven't consented to anything yet.

PROTEUS

Well, yes, but this is an abridged version of history. We need to hurry things along.

LORIELAN

Okay then, fine. Just cut down on the "hurry things along" joke.

Exit Lorielan and Proteus.

SCENE 2

Enter Proteus, and Phaestus.

PROTEUS

I've been thinking, Phaestus, Why don't we create some life of our own?

PHAESTUS

Wait, when did I enter the story?

PROTEUS

You were created along with the other Elder Gods, right?

PHAESTUS

No, look at the Mythos. I'm not listed in the list of the Elder Gods.

PROTEUS

(pulls out a piece of paper and reads)

Aegis, the God of War. Thoth, whose realm is Death. Matsuhama, the skilled God of Combat. The calculating Prospero, God of Wealth. Vastar, Lord of the Skies. Aeon, who has some control over Time itself. Gaia, Goddess of Nature. Agatheis, God of the Elements. Shaitan, the feared Lord of Evil. Flighty Eros, patron of lovers everywhere. Gentle Scarlatti, God of the Arts. Caspian, who rules the Oceans. Miramar the Evenhanded, Goddess of Justice. Twilight, the mysterious God of Darkness. Lupus, the wild God of the Beasts. Lucretius, enigmatic God of Philosophy, Raclawice, patron Goddess of Rogues and Wanderers everywhere, and Valnurana, Goddess of Sleep and Dreaming. Taking no specific realm were Lorielan, Daedalus, and Khalas. [It is up to the individual performers how long the previous speech should be. Should they wish to cut it off midway through, simply have Proteus mutter the rest quickly under his breath.] Wow, you're right Phaestus, you're not here.

PHAESTUS

So where did I come from?

PROTEUS

You probably just weren't listed, but still were created.

PHASTEUS

I wasn't listed?! This is an insult!

PROTEUS

Well what do you expect me to do?

PHAESTUS

You're the most powerful of us, why don't you just fix it so I am listed?

PROTEUS

Sure, sure, I'll get right on that.

PHAESTUS

You're not going to forget, are you?

PROTEUS

Probably not. Now, where were we?

PHAESTUS

Oh, yeah, creation of life itself!

PROTEUS

So, what do you think we shall create?

PHAESTUS

How about we start out with some vegetation, and if that works well, make some creatures that live in the water and some creatures with wings? If that works out well, we could move onto even more creatures.

PROTEUS

Let's do it!

PHAESTUS

Should we get some help from Agatheis?

PROTEUS

Nah, he's busy exploring the mysteries of matter and energy in their myriad manifestations.

Exit Phaestus and Proteus.

SCENE 3

Enter Agatheis.

AGATHEIS

As of late, I've been exploring the mysteries of matter and energy in their myriad manifestations.

(pause)

Seriously? That's all I get? One line restating what was previously said? What a waste of time.

Exit Agatheis.

SCENE 4

Enter Proteus and Phaestus.

PROTEUS

Well, that went rather well.

PHAESTUS

Yes, but none of the creatures we have created are conscious.

PROTEUS

Well, I just found out the secret of consciousness. Let's make a race!

PHAESTUS

What do you want to make?

PROTEUS

I don't know, let's just wing it.

Enter two Tsol'aa, who stand apart from Proteus and Phaestus.

PROTEUS

Aha! We have created conscious life! Let us call them the Tsol'aa.

PHAESTUS

Where'd you get that name from?

PROTEUS

I made it up just now.

PHAESTUS

Wow, it's kind of catchy.

TSOL'AA 1

So, what should we do? All species need some kind of characteristic.

TSOL'AA 2

I say we live in the woods!

TSOL'AA 1

Sounds good to me!

Exit the Tsol'aa.

PROTEUS

Isn't the fact that they're not really well made for the forestal classes a bit of a contradiction?

PHAESTUS

Could you elaborate?

PROTEUS

Well, they live in the woods, and the Druid, Sentinel, and Sylvan classes are associated with that. But Tsol'aa are actually considered to be a rather poor race for those classes, except for maybe Sylvan.

PHAESTUS

Oh well, I'm sure people will know well enough which race goes well with which class. Speaking of races, I'm going to make a race! I'll call them Dwarves!

Enter two Dwarves. The Dwarves in this scene speak in monotone.

DWARF 1

Hello.

DWARF 2

Hello also.

Pause.

PHAESTUS

Why aren't they doing anything?

PROTEUS

I think you messed things up a little. They don't seem to have free will.

PHAESTUS

Bah, back to the drawing board. I guess in the meantime I'll just ask them to mine and things like that.

DWARF 1

I have an idea. Let's go mine.

DWARF 2

I agree.

Exit Dwarves.

PHAESTUS

I'm going to have to figure out some kind of solution to this whole free will problem. In the meantime, I'll help them build some fortresses in the mountains.

Exit Phaestus.

PROTEUS

Yes, and the Tsol'aa will begin making their homes in the forest, as well.

Exit Proteus. Enter Ayar.

AYAR

Ah, what excellent work all of this has been. I am pleased.

Exit Ayar.

ACT II

SCENE 5

Enter Maya.

MAYA

Oh, what a wonderful day this is! As was yesterday! And the day before that! And every day will just get better and better! How wonderful it is to be around!

Enter the Unnamable Horror. [I was unable to find information as to what it looked like, so the performers are free to be creative as to what it should look like. Or, if they have better information than I do, they can follow that.]

MAYA

I haven't seen you before!

The Unnamable Horror growls and begins approaching Maya.

MAYA

Oh! What are you doing here? Are you here to be happy as well?

The Unnamable Horror continues growling and continues approaching Maya. Maya seems to understand that it's being threatening.

MAYA

Well you don't seem very nice. I'm out of here!

Exit Maya running, the Unnamable Horror following.

SCENE 6

Enter Dekalb, crying.

DEKALB

The horror! The Unnamable Horror has raped Maya! And as a result, has made this play unsuitable for younger audiences!

Exit Dekalb, still crying. Enter Ayar.

AYAR

I have heard Dekalb's cries, and have learned that this "Unnamable Horror" has committed a grave crime. My judgment shall be swift.

Enter the Unnamable Horror. Ayar points at it, and it begins writhing in agony.

AYAR

I shall banish you to places unknown to mortals to suffer in eternal torment for what you did. You will not even be remembered, for all evidence that you ever existed shall be removed, save for your effect on Maya. Which you'd think would make people wonder how that happened to her if they don't know who you are, but I'm too angry and this scene too serious to worry about such things!

The Unnamable Horror disappears. [If available, a trap door could function for this. If not, it falling off the stage could be possible. If that is still not available, it can either slink off or Ayar can push it away.] Exit Ayar.

SCENE 7

Enter Caymus the Aldar and various gods.

CAYMUS

I, Caymus the Aldar, have two prophecies to deliver. They will eventually be called the Twin Prophecies. I know they will be called that because that is a prophecy of mine. However, as to the prophecies themselves. My first prophecy is that Proteus will be overthrown as leader of the Gods and another will fill his place.

GOD 1

What?! This is treason! Kill him!

GOD 2

Indeed! None shall say such things!

Many of the gods begin converging around Caymus. Enter Proteus.

PROTEUS

What is the problem?

GOD 1

He has made the prophecy that you will be overthrown! We believe he should be put to death.

PROTEUS

Peace, he is not calling for a revolution, merely repeating what he has seen. He should not be punished for it.

GOD 1

Oh, good point.

GOD 2

It's odd we never thought of that.

CAYMUS

May I give my second prophecy?

PROTEUS

Certainly.

CAYMUS

I predict that Maya will bear twins, and that these children will not be Aldar but will have the potential to someday rival them in power.

GOD 1

That wasn't anywhere near as dramatic as the first prophecy.

CAYMUS

Maybe I should've given them in the opposite order.

Exit all.

SCENE 8

Enter Caymus.

CAYMUS

My prophecy has appeared to come true. Maya has indeed had twins, which are not Aldar. Yet they are pathetic, mewling, helpless things, over which many other Aldars or gods have been ridiculing me.

Enter Proteus.

PROTEUS

Mantru, the chief architect, and various Aldar have under my orders constructed a land called Ceylon, for the offspring which we have named humans. I have had them do so because I feel that there is something special to them. We have then placed Ceylon on a larger continent.

CAYMUS

Yes, one that will one day be called Sapience. Isn't prophecy great?

PROTEUS

I have further ordered that no Aldar is to exercise dominion over humanity without their consent. This has, however, made some resentful.

CAYMUS

Fascinating as all this is, why are you telling me things I already know?

PROTEUS

Exposition.

CAYMUS

Ah. Well, I have more predicting to do.

Exit Caymus.

PROTEUS

I, too, have matters to attend to.

Exit Proteus.

SCENE 9

Enter Han-Silnar, Han-Tolneth, and Dekalb.

HAN-SILNAR

I hate Proteus's order against exercising control over humanity without their consent. Why should we, who are so above them, be their slaves? Do you agree with me, brother?

HAN-TOLNETH

Han-Silnar, I do to a certain point. However, I do respect Proteus and will support and respect his decision.

HAN-SILNAR

Is that true, Han-Tolneth? I believe this puts us into different groups.

DEKALB

Stop it, you two! There is no reason to dislike Proteus's decision, for perhaps he has information we do not know. We should support his decision completely.

HAN-SILNAR

I could not disagree with you more, Dekalb. Many other Aldar would disagree with you just as much as I do.

DEKALB

Yet many would completely agree with me.

HAN-TOLNETH

Many with me, as well.

HAN-SILNAR

I believe that this decision splits us, as well as the rest of the Aldar, then.

DEKALB

I am afraid so.

HAN-SILNAR

I can only hope that Proteus will repeal his foolish decree. I fear for what conflicts will occur within the Aldar should he not. We'll probably start speaking less formally, for one.

Exit all three.

SCENE 10

Enter the Elder God Khalas.

KHALAS

This area is most remote and inhospitable.

Enter Pazuzu.

PAZUZU

Greetings, Elder God Khalas.

KHALAS

Who are you?

PAZUZU

I am Pazuzu, ruler of all airborne demons and a member of an oligopoly of demon princes.

KHALAS

Yes, yes, I know about you demons. You are limited in your ability to travel between planes in order to stop you from causing chaos in other planes.

PAZUZU

True. However, we have a tendency to not get much news that way. Could you possibly confirm what I have heard?

KHALAS

Perhaps.

PAZUZU

I have heard that there has been some unrest against Proteus as of late.

KHALAS

There is always unrest against a leader. It means nothing.

PAZUZU

And has there not been a prophecy that Proteus will be overthrown?

KHALAS

To be honest, I haven't been thinking about it. Let prophecies happen when they will happen, and let them fail when they fail.

PAZUZU

Personally, I could not blame them if there was unrest. Proteus has been leader for so long, and as of late has made--if what I have heard is correct--some rather controversial decisions. It seems entirely possible the prophecy could happen.

KHALAS

What is your point, demon?

PAZUZU

Point? I have no point. All I am saying is that I hope the prophecy will happen soon, as I rather dislike Proteus and his reign.

KHALAS

I see.

PAZUZU

In any case, give my regards to Lorielan.

KHALAS

That I shall.

The two exit in opposite directions.

SCENE 11

Khalas and Lorielan enter.

KHALAS

So as you see, Lorielan, it seems that Pazuzu would support any attempt to overthrow Proteus.

LORIELAN

I have indeed wished for Proteus's power.

KHALAS

If Proteus would to be overthrown, the usurpers would need sufficient power. The demon princes seem to have the kind of power that would be necessary.

LORIELAN

Proteus will have to eventually be usurped according to the prophecy.

KHALAS

Indeed.

LORIELAN

Let us approach Agatheis and see what he thinks.

Agatheis enters, standing apart from Lorielan and Khalas. The two approach him.

AGATHEIS

I am close to my goal of elemental control, but have not yet reached it. (notices Lorielan and Khalas)

Oh, hello Lorielan and Khalas. What do you wish with me?

LORIELAN

What do you think of the current state of our "government"?

AGATHEIS

I am unaware of exactly what you are asking.

LORIELAN

Do you believe that Proteus should be leader?

AGATHEIS

Are you implying a rebellion of some kind?

LORIELAN

Perhaps.

AGATHEIS

I will support you, but we lack forces. We should wait a few hundred years while we strengthen our forces.

KHALAS

Very well. After all, what is a few hundred years when we've been around as long as we have?

LORIELAN

Let us call ourselves the Triumvirate, and each attempt to gain allies.

The three exit.

ACT III

SCENE 12

Enter several Kx'Khrah [crystalline beings] and Lorielan. The Kx'Khral notice her and fall to her feet.

KX'KHRAL 1

We have never seen a being as rounded as you!

KX'KHRAL 2

Surely you must be some kind of god!

LORIELAN

(aside)

This can work to my advantage. These seem to have the power to manipulate and harness the powers of sound and light. If I can convince them that Proteus is their enemy, I will be able to use that power.

(to Kx'Khral)

There is a grave threat to the multiverse. Ayar, who I represent, created the universe with order in mind, and you seem to represent order. Unfortunately, there is one who threatens this order, named Proteus.

KX'KHRAL 1

Truly?

LORIELAN

Indeed. I have much to tell you.

KX'KHRAL 2

We shall listen.

Exit all.

SCENE 13

Enter Agatheis.

AGATHEIS

At long last, I have completed my experiments and have the power of elemental control. I can communicate with the leaders of the elements.

Sllshya, Kractle, Whiirh, and Garash all enter. Agatheis says their name and title as each enters:

AGATHEIS

Sllshya, the Great Ocean. Kractle, the Eternal Fire. Whiirh, the Western Wind. Garash, the Immovable Mountain. While you are unable to leave your planes, I am able to communicate with you through my powers of the elements and ability to actually pronounce your names. You will all join the Triumvirate army.

The other four look at each other, puzzled.

AGATHEIS

I have control over the elements, which means I have control over you! You will obey!

Agatheis points at the four, who all writhe. He stops.

AGATHEIS

There. You will now aid me. While you are unable to leave your planes, I shall use your power to summon as many elementals as I wish and have them do my bidding. You may leave now.

Exit all but Agatheis. Agatheis then exits as well.

SCENE 14

Dekalb and Daedalus enter.

DAEDALUS

You wished to speak with me?

DEKALB

Indeed, Daedalus. While my control over elements is not perfect, I have sufficient to perceive that a rebellion is coming against Proteus.

DAEDALUS

This is grave news.

DEKALB

I can, however, promise that the Aldar will always be known as true loyalists of the established order.

DAEDALUS

I hope that is true. We must contact the other Elder Gods and notify them of the plot. Who is behind it?

DEKALB

I believe it is Lorielan, Khalas, and Agatheis.

DAEDALUS

I shall notify the others immediately.

Exit both.

SCENE 15

Enter Daedalus, Shaitan, Twilight, Scarlatti, Aegis, Matsuhama, and other gods enter.

DAEDALUS

I have called you here to notify you of the treachery that I have discovered Lorielan, Khalas, and Agatheis have engaged in against Proteus. I ask you all to stand by Proteus.

SCARLATTI

I, Scarlatti, who like to refer to myself in the third person at the moment, care little one way or the other.

Exit Scarlatti.

SHAITAN

Given how often I have been excluded by you, I see no reason to support either side. I, like Scarlatti, shall leave.

TWILIGHT

I am of the same mind as Shaitan.

Exit Shaitan and Twilight, with some other gods.

DAEDALUS

So Scarlatti, Shaitan, and Twilight are uninterested. What of the rest of you?

AEGIS

A conflict such as this would certainly bring great opportunities. I will fight with you.

THOTH

So shall I.

MATSUHAMA

I believe I speak for the majority of us when I say that this "Triumvirate" must be stopped or else all of creation shall be destroyed.

DAEDALUS

Excellent, Aegis, Thoth, and Matsuhama. With you and others, we shall be able to defeat our enemies.

Exit all.

SCENE 16

Enter Han-Silnar, Dekalb, Han-Tolneth, and other Aldar.

DEKALB

I and my faction will under no circumstances participate in a rebellion. In fact, we will most likely fight against one.

HAN-TOLNETH

I and my faction care little for either side.

HAN-SILNAR

Proteus's absurd decree against our interfering with humans still stings me, and I am certain my faction agrees.

The three and the other Aldar all begin arguing. The Narrator enters and addresses the audience while standing in front of the Aldar.

NARRATOR

The Aldar debated the topic for seven years, but in the end, Dekalb won the respect of all the others. Even Han-Silnar was forced to agree with Dekalb and to support Proteus.

Exit Narrator. By this time the arguing has stopped.

DEKALB

The Altar are now united in support of Proteus. None will support the rebellion.

HAN-SILNAR

(aside)

Agreeing with Dekalb on this is as infuriating to me as Proteus's original decree was. I do not consider the matter to be closed at all.

Exit all.

SCENE 17

Enter Khalas and Prince Slith.

KHALAS

Agatheis has managed to convince the Rajamala and the Nevaharr to join with us. Will you, also, Prince Slith?

SLITH

Who are these Rajamala and Nevaharr of which you speak?

KHALAS

The Rajamala are a tiger-people from another planet, and the Nevaharr are beings of a humanoid upper-body and the lower body of a six-legged lion. The former already worshipped Agatheis, while the latter surrendered to us and serve.

SLITH

Where does Thoth stand in all this?

KHALAS

Against us.

SLITH

I detest him. I will join you, along with my many legions.

Enter Ugrach.

UGRACH

What is going on?

KHALAS

Ah, are you King Ugrach?

UGRACH

That I am.

KHALAS

We were discussing an alliance between our forces and yours against Proteus.

UGRACH

I will not join. Not against Thoth. Mighty are the Powers of the Underworld, but mightier still is Death himself.

SLITH

We should side with the Triumvirate.

UGRACH

No, and if you intend to do so, I will be very displeased.

SLITH

I do intend to do so.

UGRACH

I am very displeased.

SLITH

Yeah, you just said you would be.

UGRACH

Whatever! You and your legions are all banished from the Underworld. Leave immediately.

Exit Ugrach.

KHALAS

Worry not, you have chosen the correct side.

SLITH

We will leave with you.

KHALAS

Why are we all talking in such short sentences?

SLITH

The Underworld has that effect on people, apparently.

Khalas and Slith exit.

SCENE 18

Enter Narrator.

NARRATOR

Lorielan forces Han-Silnar to betray the Aldar, and all of Dekalb's faction got killed, along with most of Han-Silnar's faction. Han-Tolneth's got spared because they weren't around at the time. That's what happened, got it? Thanks. So this puts the Triumvirate at an advantage.

Exit Narrator.

ACT IV

SCENE 19

Enter Proteus and Phaestus. [An optional thing to do during this scene would be to have other people play the factions fighting, to display the battle.]

PROTEUS

So, we have transported all of our forces to Nishnatoba. We have on our side the Horkval as well as the mercenaries of Arn, whose leader is named Gruul. We have the Quisalis assassins, the Tsol'aa, unicorns, and some others.

PHAESTUS

And we have the dwarves because you agreed to give them souls in exchange for their aid.

PROTEUS

Why didn't I just do that in the first place, come to think of it?

PHAESTUS

Come to think of it, why are we telling each other things we already know?

PROTEUS

I don't know. Oh, and our enemies have the Kx'Khrah, the Rajamala, Slith and his forces, and Pazuzu's forces.

PHAESTUS

There you went again!

PROTEUS

Ah well. Does anyone really care about the specifics of the battle? Aren't people mostly just interested in who won?

PHAESTUS

Not really.

PROTEUS

Wait, not really to the first question, or the second?

PHEASTUS

The first.

PROTEUS

Okay! Time fast-forward! We are now farther into the battle! [If the earlier idea of showing parts of the battle was used, having the actors run around very rapidly at this point, to show the swift passage of time, could be amusing.] Oh no! We are losing horribly and are about to be destroyed!

PHAESTUS

How horrible!

PROTEUS

But look! Han-Tolneth has returned! With dragons! On our side!

PHAESTUS

Seriously? That's what happens? What a deus ex machina.

PROTEUS

We're gods! What's wrong with a deus ex machina?

PHAESTUS

Oh, good point. Whatever, we won.

PROTEUS

Though seriously, if this were a story of some sort, it would have been a really lame way to bring about an end to the battle. Good thing this is real life, right?

PHAESTUS

Okay! So how do we punish the people who rebelled against us?

PROTEUS

Exile Lorielan to the Kx'Khrah plane, make Han-Silnar serve her and probably be beaten up a bunch, and then force Agatheis and Khalas serve me. Pazuzu as well as Slith and his undead forces get banished to a newly-created Plane of Chaos, which was made just for him.

Enter Narrator.

NARRATOR

(reading)

Thus it was that Lorielan, along with Han-Silnar, was forever banished to the Crystal plane, where she rules over it still as the Jade Empress.

(stops reading)

Wait, what? What?! Forever? Still rules? Didn't she get out? This needs to be updated! I'm going to go get that fixed right now!

Exit Narrator.

PROTEUS

Oh, and Gruul and his mercenaries apparently stayed around and mated with some humans, resulting in the race of Trolls. I'm not sure how that works biologically, but...

PHAESTUS

Well at least everything is back to normal, sort of, and we'll never have to worry about anything like this ever again!

Exit Proteus and Phaestus. Enter Narrator.

NARRATOR

Suspense!

Exit Narrator. Enter Proteus and Phaestus.

PROTEUS

You know, if this were some kind of story, we really should've ended it right after the aftermath of that battle. I mean, we spent so much time building up to it, that throwing in another battle afterwards just seems kind of lame, isn't it?

PHAESTUS

Well, even if it would be poor story structure, it seems we still have to deal with problems. Like all this Chaos!

PROTEUS

Not to be convinced with chaos, with a lowercase C! We're talking about Chaos, with an uppercase C, which is different! Capitalization does matter!

PHAESTUS

Who are you talking to?

PROTEUS

Never mind that. Anyway, we're losing! Entropy and Discord are ravaging us! Oh no!

PHAESTUS

Who are you talking to?

PROTEUS

Never mind that!

Enter Ayar.

AYAR

Uh-oh, it looks like things are about to be destroyed. I didn't foresee this! That's because I'm omnipotent, but not omniscient. The former is all-powerful, the latter is all-knowing. Anyway, might as well give some exposition. See, I created these two realms, Creation and Chaos. Why? No one knows, and I'm not telling you. Though it seems odd that someone would know enough about me to know that I made them, but wouldn't know enough to know why I made them. Uh, yeah. Wow, I really wasn't important in this section at all. Why was I even mentioned?

Exit Ayar.

PROTEUS

Oh no! Discord has entered my mind! I now know that the rebellion, which was supposed to be the big climax, was really just what set this entire Chaos war up!

PHAESTUS

Okay, seriously, if this was a story, this would feel like a twist thrown in just to artificially lengthen it.

Enter Ayar.

AYAR

Oh, wait, I do have a purpose here. I order Entropy and Discord to stop! (pause) Wait, where are Entropy and Discord? Did we not have enough actors? Whatever! Even though I'm omnipotent and therefore could simply destroy them, I instead will scatter them across the world. Most of it got thrown into the Chaos Plane, where Pazuzu and the others were banished, and honestly, who cares at this point? Chaos attacked, Chaos was defeated, but there's more Chaos now. There. I just summed up this entire thing. (pause) Okay, guess it's time for me to reveal myself to the others. Hey, Proteus!

Proteus looks at Ayar.

PROTEUS

How did we not notice you until now?

AYAR

Because I'm omnipotent and concealed myself! Anyway, long story short, you're part of me, and I want to re-combine us to prevent anything like this from happening again. How about it?

PROTEUS

I don't want to.

AYAR

You have to!

PROTEUS

Okay.

Exit Ayar and Proteus. Enter Narrator.

NARRATOR

And so they combined into the being we now know as...Sarapis!

Enter Sarapis.

SARAPIS

Here I am, just in time to make a cameo! My first act will be to create a god for those who seek Chaos named Babel!

PHAESTUS

Wait wait wait, what?

SARAPIS

Well shouldn't they have one?

PHAESTUS

The whole reason Ayar and Proteus combined into you was to PREVENT Chaos from being an enemy force again, and your first act is to give Chaos its own deity? That makes no sense whatsoever!

SARAPIS

Sarapis works in mysterious ways.

Phaestus sighs.

SARAPIS

I also will elevate Maya to to Godhood, so she'll have power to look after humanity, which are after all, her children.

PHAESTUS

That makes some more sense.

Exit Phaestus and Sarapis.

NARRATOR

Okay, okay, time to go over what happens afterward. The Aldar made a plane for the deities, and in return got their own plane that most of them went to, and as a result most were never seen again. Han-Tolneth had a lot of angst about how he should've supported Dekalb in the beginning. To try to make up for it, he made the Celani, who are, essentially, greater than a man, but lesser than a god. Sarapis made Phaestus and Daedalus his top lieutenants because they supported him in the war. And that's the end of the Mythos. And that's the end of this play! Which, come to think of it, wasn't really that "abridged" after all. Probably would've been faster to just read the original Mythos. Well, we hope you enjoyed it!
