There are many ways to connect to Achaea. There is, of course, the Telnet application that comes with most operating systems by default, but that is a poor way to experience the vibrance of the realms. We supply two official clients: one that can be reached via the Play Now button at [http://www.achaea.com achaea.com] (which uses Flash), or a client called [http://www.achaea.com/nexus/play.php Nexus] which is written in Java. Both are very similar on the surface, but for the purposes of this guide, we will assume you are using Nexus. When Nexus has loaded up, it offers you a choice between logging into an existing character or creating a new one. We'll cover character creation later in the guide, so for now let's say you've logged in. You can always re-read this section when you've made a character, after all!
There are many clients that connect to Achaea. They include browser-based, downloadable, and mobile app versions. The best options to play Achaea include:

;The Nexus Client:The official client of Achaea, Nexus runs in a web browser (like Google Chrome) and will work on all internet-ready devices operating systems, including Windows, Macs, and Linux. Mobile users, however, may find it operates with limited functionality. Please read [[http://www.achaea.com/game/helpview/achaea/nexus-our-official-client HELP NEXUS]] for more information.
;The Mudlet Client:This is a third-party downloadable client for PCs. You can find this client on the [[http://www.mudlet.org MUDLET HOME PAGE]]. Once you download it, have it connect to achaea.com and either port 23 or 2003. Both ports work.
;The Mobile Client:This client works for Android devices. You can [[https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ironrealms.ireclient DOWNLOAD ANDROID]] or read [[http://www.achaea.com/game/helpview/achaea?what=android&x=Help HELP ANDROID]] to get started.
;VIP Mud:If you're visually-impaired and use a screenreader, then this free MUD client is fully-accessible including scripting capabilities. You can visit the [[http://www.gmagames.com/vipmud.shtml VIP Mud website]] for more information.
;Other Clients:You can visit the [[http://www.achaea.com/info/clients Achaea website]] to learn about other third-party clients which could either be free or require purchase.
===Using the Nexus Client===
Nexus opens in a small window of a fixed size. To make it resizeable, you must ''detach'' the client by clicking the blue button in the upper-right corner. Once detached, Nexus continues to rely on the now-empty window for its existence: should you close it, Nexus disappears along with it.
