The Flame of Yggdrasil is a six-foot tall eternal, heatless flame found in a cave in Yggdrasil west of the Black Forest on Sapience, and within the Sarave Foothills on Meropis. It was created unimaginably far back in pre-history when Agatheis, the Elemental Lord, was still tinkering with elemental control. A Divine experiment gone awry, the Flame of Yggdrasil proves an asset to mortals nonetheless, as it holds the power of resurrection for corpses immolated within.

In the year 208 AF, the scourging of Sapience during the Morning Star event and the resulting resurrection of the land by Oneiros resulted in the rediscovery of the path which leads to to the Flame of Yggdrasil. In the wake of the blast of Death's Heart, Sarapis deigned to answer Deucalion's dying wish: that mortalkind might be granted a second chance to redeem themselves. Since then adventurers have been gifted with the ability to reincarnate at the Yggdrasian fire.

The Flame was nearly extinguished in the early 7th century, dying down to a mere spark during the rise of Bal'met and his growing grasp upon the Fire Behind the Flame. After the fall of the Worldreaver the life-giving fire was rekindled by the restored Sycaerunax, Father of Dragons.

New adventurers to the realm enter the Flame of Yggdrasil in order to undertake the Trial of Rebirth where they learn more about the realms.
