A boarding plank is cut from the hull of a ship with a tool called a ship's axe. Without this axe, boarding planks have an unnatural resistance to all other attempts to remove them. Once removed from the hull of a ship, the boarding plank allows enemies to force their way onto a neighbouring ship without permission, as obtained by the forceboarding ability.
